Sector movers: BATM leads tech decline

BATM Advanced Communications is leading the technology equipment and hardware sector lower after it posted a fall in profits in the year to 31 December as subdued economic conditions kept revenues flat. The supplier of broadband data and telecommunications systems and medical laboratory equipment said pre-tax profits fell to $18.5m from $23.7m as revenues edged up to $135.4m from $134.5m. It says it is 'cautiously optimistic' for the coming year. Among the sectors in the blue today is beverages. Miller Light brewer SABMiller and Guinness and spirits producer Diageo are among the top risers. In soft drinks, Irn-Bru maker Barr is higher, Vimto group Nichols is flat but Tango maker Britvic is lower.
