Despite the challenging conditions that characterised the first half of 2008, the fund had proven resilient by not owning banks and property stocks. More recently, the fund has been adversely affected by its exposure to Russia. Robin Geffen made a recent visit to the country to gain a first-hand perspective of the situation. Despite the fall in the oil price and political tensions, he believes the long term growth prospects remain sound.

Robin Geffen was educated at Keble College, Oxford and having spent a period of time working in industry as a management trainee, he moved into financial services and started his fund management career at Charterhouse J Rothchild. After more than 20 years of experience, he set up Neptune Investment Management in 2002, where he is the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer.
