Bill Mott favours two groups of companies at present: defensive companies currently yielding more than 10-year government bonds (e.g. GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca); and companies that have strong brands and sound balance sheets, with the potential to outperform their competitors because of their favourable market position. He has also added to positions in high-yielding overseas companies, which currently make up 9% of the portfolio.
