HL Research - Our view on this Fund

Mark Dampier There are numerous factors that support the case for junior oil companies. Oil prices remain above long-term average levels, and this looks set to continue given the huge demand created by China's rapid industrialisation. Interest rates remain low, which is helping smaller oil companies to raise capital to fund development projects, which in turn should drive growth. Finally, takeover activity is strong and this is also driving returns.

Angelos Damaskos is a Greek national who arrived in the UK in 1981 to attend university. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and an MBA from Sheffield University in 1989. For the next 14 years, he worked with top-rated London investment banks specializing in natural resources financing. In 2004, subscribing to the thesis of a new super-cycle in energy and commodities, he set up Sector Investment Managers Ltd and launched the Junior Oils Trust, a fund investing in small to medium capitalization companies involved in oil exploration and production. Since its inception, the fund has consistently outperformed its benchmark, the FTSE 350 oil and gas index, as well as the crude oil price.
