HL Research - Our view on this Fund

Mark Dampier Although the fund struggled at the start of this year with its banking exposure, performance improved over the summer. Bill Mott bought into some of the more economically sensitive areas of the market like pub operators, retailers and house builders on weakness. He feels that getting the timing right helped as some then bounced from lows. Going forward, he expects steep interest rate cuts to help a frail UK economy.

Bill Mott
Located in: London

Bill Mott is one of the best-known UK equity fund managers in the UK market, having spent 30 years at Credit Suisse. He is well known in the market for his top-down thematic investment style and for making major calls about the direction of the economy. Bill identifies particular inflection points in markets, most famously evidenced in March 2000 when he moved from growth to value stocks. This timely move avoided dramatic losses in TMT whilst capturing the rally in value stocks.
